FAQs

Q: Tell me a little about Roadtrip? What sets Road Trip Travel Nursing apart?
A: It’s our simple no frills approach. We provide the best pay rates by reducing many of the unnecessary amenities that other companies offer and charge for, SUCH AS HOUSING! We find that many travel nurses are capable of locating their own housing or perhaps choose to stay with friends or relatives during an assignment. And when you only need the basic requirements, why pay for amenities you do not need or want? We have taken the complexity out of travel nurse staffing by developing a simple operating model that produces a dramatically lower cost structure resulting in more money for you! Our simple online job searches are by Pay, by Specialty or by State. Our dedicated recruiters have been successfully matching nurses and jobs for over a decade, having been recognized with the Golden Seal of Approval as a Certified Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Company.
Q: Housing allowance?
A: This could be a great option for you! A housing allowance is a lump sum we provide based on the cost of living for that particular area. If you are eligible, the amount is tax free and is based on the dates of the assignment.
Q: Can I receive Tax Free Housing Allowance if I have a permanent address close to the hospital?
A: Yes, you can receive a tax free housing allowance in the event that the facility you accept an assignment is fifty (50) miles away from your permanent address.
Q: How is my Tax Free Housing Allowance provided?
A: You will receive your housing allowance in weekly installments.
Q: What if I don’t need any housing at all?
A: Then, you are lucky because all the money we would have paid towards housing gets rolled into a higher flat hourly rate.
Q: What if my spouse is a traveler too?
A: Oh, that must be so nice! In that case, you have several options on how to handle this:
  1. You both can receive straight salaries.
  2. You can split the housing allowance between the two of you and inflate salaries.
  3. One person can take the full housing allowance and salary, while the other person takes an inflated salary.
Q: Health Insurance?
A: We have great health insurance coverage through Humana. There are three different plans to choose from.
Q: When does insurance start?
A: It depends on which plan you decide to choose ranging from first day coverage and 1st of the following month coverage.
Q: Do you have 401K?
A: Yes, we do, one of the best programs out there. After 6 months of employment, you can begin contributing to your 401K. We match .50 on the dollar up to 6%. You can contribute up to 20% though if you would like. The great part about this is you are 100% vested immediately, which means that the match Roadtrip contributes is yours immediately. We are one of the only companies out there that offers this benefit. There are about 15 different mutual funds for you to choose from.
Q: Do you offer vacation?
A: As a traveler, you are always allowed to take time off during and in between assignments, that is one of the great perks of being a traveler. We do not offer paid vacation, but will keep your benefits active for you, up to 6 weeks as long as you have a future assignment booked.
Q: Reimbursement for PALS, ACLS, etc…?
A: Yes. We can build this right into your comp plan!
Q: How much do you give for travel money?
A: We give up to $450 for travel money. The amount and range we give is based on the miles you travel to and from your assignment. We round trip the miles for you so that you are eligible for the highest amount.
Q: When will I receive my travel money?
A: We will direct deposit you your travel money the first week you start your assignment.
Q: Do you reimburse for a license?
A: Absolutely, we reimburse 100% for the costs to obtain a new license. All we would ask for you to do is keep all your receipts. We will reimburse you as soon as you start your assignment.
Q: How does your referral bonus program work?
A: Our referral bonus program is very easy to follow and is a great way for you to earn extra money for something that you would probably already do. We pay $1000 per nurse that completes their assignment.
Q: How does that get paid to me?
A: Once the person ends their assignment with Roadtrip, you will get dollar amount directly deposited with your paycheck. In the event you no longer with Roadtrip, but continue to refer travelers, we will cut you a live check and mail it to you.
Q: Tell me about your customer service?
A: Our service level is what I feel truly differentiates us in the industry. As your recruiter, we like to also refer to ourselves as the quarterback. We are your main point of contact for any and all issues. What is great too is that we have an entire staff dedicated to our travelers. We all work together to maker sure you are taken care of. We provide individualized marketing, an open door policy, family feel, and can even give you the CEO’s personal cell number if needed.
Q: How do I know what jobs you have available?
A: At any time, we can go over our job openings with you via phone or email. But, our website has all of our jobs listed as well. So, 24-hours a day, you have our live, real time job postings at your fingertips.
Q: How long do your contracts run?
A: Our contracts are usually about 13-16 weeks in length. However, many times the length is dictated by the facility. If you would ever like a longer contract or shorter contract, we can always ask.
Q: Are there guaranteed hours?
A: The hours guarantee varies contract by contract, hospital by hospital. For the most part, Roadtrip will not put you in a facility where we have found them to be chronic offenders of not giving our traveler’s their hours. But again, each assignment can have its own hour guarantee rules.
Q: Do you have contracts that offer more hours, OT?
A: We do have a program in place where we work with different facilities to schedule 48-hour work weeks. If we have a situation where the traveler wants more hours, we will try to either pair you up with a facility where we know offer more hours each week, or ask facilities on a case by case basis and try to find that for you. We will always do our best to meet all of your requests and find what you are looking for. Please just keep in mind, in the end it will most likely be up the facility to offer or not offer this, but again, Roadtrip will try on your behalf.
Q: How does Roadtrip pay?
A: We pay weekly and have our payroll set up through Paycor. We provide direct deposit for your convenience and it starts immediately with your first paycheck.
Q: I can’t find my license, what do I do?
A: No problem that is not unusual. Here is how we handle that, first of all, have you called back home and looked every place you think it could be? Or have someone help you look? Secondly, we give you the website and if for the State Board and you can request a duplicate. Let’s go ahead and proceed with this just in case you are unable to find it. This will also prevent any delays in your assignment. If you don’t have Internet access, we might be able to help you request a duplicate from our end.
Q: My BLS is expired, does that matter? My ACLS covers that anyways right?
A: We can understand why you would think that would be true since parts of the BLS are covered in the ACLS class. The AHA requires you to have a valid BLS card before you can take or renew an ACLS. Every hospital, JCAHO and Roadtrip requires a valid BLS certification in order to work.
Q: You said you sent me some forms, I never go those?
A: No problem, let’s start by verifying the address where the forms were supposed to be sent. Then, we can either resend the forms or you can get them directly from our website. The important thing is that we do whatever is necessary to get the required documents by the deadline on the colored form QM puts together. We don’t want any delays or problems with your scheduled start date. If you choose to get the forms from the website, we may still need to send you some of the forms.
Q: I had no idea that my BLS was expired?
A: It is difficult to keep up with everything that is required of you as a nurse and traveler. However, this is very important because it can jeopardize your ability to work, so here is what we need to do. We need to find a class for you to attend ASAP. Let’s work together on this.
Q: I know you said you needed “xyz” documents, but I don’t have time.
A: We can only imagine how busy you must be trying to prepare for your assignment. However, we cannot emphasize enough how important this paperwork is, even though it probably seems trivial. Although paperwork wasn’t a huge issue in the past, hospitals are now really cracking down on required forms and are not allowing travelers to start their assignment if all the required documentation is not turned in before hand. What can we work on together to help get it done?
